Seduwa is a locality situated at the foot of Mount Makalu, in the Sankhuwasabha district in Province 1. It has a population of around 20,000 people.

One of the Foundation’s objectives is to give back to the people of the Himalayas everything they gave to Iñaki throughout his life.

Iñaki always had a preference for the youngest, and with this project, we want to help them directly. There are children who walk for more than two hours each day to get to school without having eaten anything. They only have a glass of water.

Others stay at school during the week, but no one takes care of ensuring they eat; they have to prepare their own meals on wood stoves.

PROJECT PHASES AND BUDGET

PHASE I

Adaptation of the kitchen.

Start: 694€
Annual consumption: € 1,794

PHASE II

Hiring of the cook Chandra Kumari Parajulí.

Annual salary: €3,000

PHASE III

Launch of the community kitchen.

EXPECTED RESULTS

Improve the nutrition of the children.
Improve the care of the 30 boarding students.
Improve their academic performance.
Improve the attention to the 30 boarding children.
Improve the local economy by buying all food products from local suppliers.
Improve the role of women by hiring someone to cook and take care of these children, making her responsible for the project.

BENEFICIARY POPULATION OF THE PROJECT

Estimated number of direct beneficiaries: 30 children, 1 woman.
Estimated number of indirect beneficiaries: 20 farming families and all families of the children.
Estimated total population of the area: 20,000 people, according to the last census of 2011.
