SPAIN
In Spain, we dedicate ourselves to giving talks, organizing screenings, and participating in various events with the aim of spreading Iñaki’s memory and communicating the Foundation’s projects.
2019
-January: We attended the ‘I Montain Week of Barañain,’ where the documentary ‘La voz de Iñaki’ was screened.
-February: We collaborated in the screening in various locations in the Basque Country and Navarre of the film ‘Pumori, mendiaren alaba’ (‘Pumori, the daughter of the mountain’), which tells the tragic accident of the Guipuzcoan mountaineers Beñat Arrue and Iñaki Aiertza, and the Navarrese Aritz Artieda, Javi Arkauz, and César Nieto, in an attempt to ascend the mountain of the same name in 2001.
-March: We raised funds at the ‘Carrera del Chorizo’ in Castillo de Bayuela, Toledo. We also attended the presentation of the documentary ‘Latidos en el Majuy’ by Eduardo Martinez, which aims to create a cardiology unit at the Makalu Hospital with the profits.
-April: Pablo Ochoa de Olza, Iñaki’s brother, went to Carcubuey, Córdoba, to give a talk and screen the documentary ‘La voz de Iñaki.’
-June: Komando Tortilla participated in the ‘Maratón de Benasque’ with our T-shirts. In addition, we screened ‘La voz de Iñaki’ in the San Ignacio, Vedruna, Paz De Ziganda, and La Presentación schools. We also held a solidarity yoga session at San Ignacio School in Pamplona and participated in the ‘IV Comida Solidaria’ in Aguilar de Campoo, Palencia.
-September: We celebrated the tenth anniversary of the foundation in Isaba, where we carried out various activities such as the screening of ‘La voz de Iñaki,’ a roundtable discussion with the altruistic participation of Gregorio Ariz, Horia Colibasanu (the main actor in the rescue attempt of Iñaki), and Jorge Nagore; the ‘I Marcha Iñaki Ochoa de Olza’ and a solidarity meal. In addition, we attended the 3rd edition of the Tutturre Intza race, whose organization made a donation to the Foundation.
-November: We collaborated with the Vía Libre Association of Madrid in the rescue and repatriation of two Spanish climbers, Felipe and David, injured in Nepal. We also celebrated #GivingTuesday at the Bar Subsuelo in Pamplona.
-December: We participated as guests in the ‘Mendi Film Festival’ in Bilbao, with the screening of “La voz de Iñaki.” We were also present at the Christmas Fair in Plaza del Castillo in Pamplona. On their part, ‘Komando Tortilla’ held a screening in Castejón de Sos, Huesca, from which they donated the profits to us.
2020
-January: We screened the documentary ‘La voz de Iñaki’ and gave a talk in Durango, Bizkaia. In addition, we started collaborating with the CIFP de Hostelería y Turismo de Asturias, which will donate the money raised from their ‘Himalayetas’ to the Foundation.
-February: Press conference at IES Tierra Estella, where we explained the project in which the center collaborates with us. In Lezo, Gipuzkoa, and Tudela, Navarre, we screened ‘La voz de Iñaki’ and participated in the subsequent discussion. In the Basque town, we participated in the mountain race and spread the work of the Foundation. We also did it on the radio program ‘El cofre del Capitán Morgan,’ from Ática FM.
-May: We participated in the filming of the documentary film ‘Mendian hil. Hirian hil’ (‘Dying in the mountain, dying in the city’), which will be released in December at the Mendi Film Festival in Bilbao.
-August: We inaugurated our much more modern, aesthetic, and intuitive website.
-December: We presented the book ‘Las aventuras de Iñaki en el Himalaya,’ with which we want to bring Iñaki’s figure closer to children.
2021
-January: We put several copies of Iñaki’s personal library up for sale to raise funds for projects.
-February: Presentation of the film ‘Mendian hil, hirian hil’ (‘Dying in the mountain, dying in the city’) in which the Foundation’s coordinator, Elena Sagaseta de Ilúrdoz, participated.
-March: Screening of the film ‘Mendian hil, hirian hil’ (‘Dying in the mountain, dying in the city’) in which the Foundation’s coordinator, Elena Sagaseta de Ilúrdoz, participated. Summary press conference of the Foundation’s work with students from IES Tierra Estella.
-May: Sending press releases to the media about the humanitarian emergency situation in Nepal due to a significant wave of covid-19. Interview on Euskal Irratia and SER in the SER Solidarios program. Awareness-raising action in Estella as part of Solidarity Week: screening of ‘La voz de Iñaki’ and subsequent talk.
-June: Participation in the Solidarity Fair of Estella.
-July: Collaboration agreement with Be Artsy Nepal to send several oxygen canisters to the Seduwa Hospital and Num Hospital to treat covid patients.
-September: Launch of the ‘Solidarity with Nepal’ project, selling solidarity photos. Awareness-raising event by Gregorio Ariz with Traperos de Emaús workers. Awareness-raising event within the opening days of the Ángel Olorón refuge in Belagua, organized by the Navarrese Federation of mountain and climbing sports.
-October: Awareness-raising action with 1st-year high school students at San Ignacio School, Jesuits, in Pamplona. Exhibition “Makalu Hospital” at the Lourdes civic center in Tudela, until November 3, 2021, with great reception. Participation in the Spanish climbing championship held in Rocopolis, Berriozar.
-November: Solidarity yoga sessions by Ashley at the Pumori center in Huarte. Awareness-raising action with 1st-year high school students at San Ignacio School, Jesuits, in Pamplona. Awareness-raising session by Amunt Nepal in Sant Celoni. Presentation of the project “rebuilding homes, rebuilding lives” at the Estella City Council. Awareness-raising event in Castillo de Bayuela, Toledo.
-December: Awareness-raising event in Castejón de SOS, Huesca. Awareness-raising action in Bakio with all the volunteers who are going to Nepal this Christmas, bringing humanitarian aid. Awareness-raising action at the Christmas fair in Plaza del Castillo in Pamplona.
2022
-January: Participation in a radio program on SER in Tafalla (Navarre).
-February: Press conference at IES Tierra Estella on the actions supported by the City Council. Meeting with Medicina Abierta al Mundo to study the possibility of acquiring an incubator for the Makalu hospital.
-March: Meeting with Rocópolis to organize the ‘II Marcha Iñaki Ochoa de Olza’.
-April: Collection at Salesianos of the incubator crib from Medicina Abierta al Mundo. Meeting with the Estella mountain club to organize the Mountain Week/Mendi Astea.
-May: Meeting with Golem to organize the “La solidaridad mueve montañas” film series. Presentation of the ‘II Marcha Iñaki Ochoa de Olza’, to be held on May 22, and the film series (May 23-27), covered by media.
-June: Participation in the Solidarity Week of Estella and awareness-raising day with a group of students from IES Tierra Estella.
-September: Meetings with the participants of the solidarity experience to Makalu Base Camp. Meeting with the Estella mountain club to organize a solidarity mountain week.
-October: “La solidaridad mueve montañas” series in Tafalla and Estella.
-November: Solidarity experience to Makalu Base Camp.
2023
-February: Press conference for the solidarity fundraising event at IES Tierra Estella.
-March: Screenings of ‘La voz de Iñaki’ at Geko Aventura (Valladolid), Irurtzun, Getxo, Ayegui, and Metauten.
-April: Participation in the radio program “El cofre del Capitán Morgan.” Press conference for the presentation of Sakanako Ibilaldia-II Memorial Iñaki Ochoa de Olza in Irurtzun, and awareness day with elementary and high school students in the same locality. Screening of ‘La voz de Iñaki’ in the Txantrea. Reception of an electrocardiograph donated by Osakidetza. Celebration of Sakanako Ibilaldia-II Memorial Iñaki Ochoa de Olza.
-May: Reception of an electrocardiograph donated by the Miguel Servet Hospital. Presentation event for the 15th anniversary of Iñaki’s passing. Interviews on SER radio and the “Piedra de toque” radio program. Commemoration of the 15th anniversary of Iñaki’s passing in Unanu. Trip to Nepal by our coordinator to conduct the Nepalese accounts audit.
-June: Display of solidarity and fair trade in Estella. Awareness day at Kings School in Tres Cantos, Madrid.
-July: Reading of Aitor Etxarri’s TFG (Final Degree Project), a student who worked in Nepal during the last year, in Irún.
-September: Inauguration of the school year at the Iñaki Ochoa de Olza Institute. Presentation of ‘La voz de Iñaki’ at the center and the start of the “solidarity hats” project in the Educational Attention subject in 4th ESO. Screening of ‘La voz de Iñaki’ in Aribe.
-October: Awareness action with 1st-year Baccalaureate students at San Ignacio-Jesuitas School in Pamplona. Participation in the II Solidarity Mountain Days in Castillo de Bayuela (Toledo).
-November: Awareness action with students at FP Biurdana. Presentation of the documentary “Mientras sigamos siendo libres” in Castejón de SOS. Screening of ‘La voz de Iñaki’ at the Gasteiz Mountain Club in Vitoria and in Antsoain. Awareness action with 1st-year Baccalaureate students at San Ignacio-Jesuitas School in Pamplona. Trip to Nepal by the Foundation’s coordinator. Inauguration with a discussion forum of the Cardedeu mountain film series in support of SOS Himalaya.
-December: Screening of ‘La voz de Iñaki’ in the Cardedeu sports film series. Sensitization at the Christmas Fair in Pamplona at Paseo Sarasate. Solidarity race at the Integrated Center Burlada FP. Screening of ‘La voz de Iñaki’ at the Burlada Mountain Club. Awareness day at the Pamplona Tennis Club, as part of the 50th anniversary of the indoor pool.
